Lorraine, welcome to the Midlands Bridal Fair 2017 in KZN. We are so excited to introduce you and your business to our Brides- and Grooms-to-be!

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I am an experienced, innovative and dedicated florist based in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. I have been keenly interested in growing and arranging flowers as long as I can remember and have been formally involved in the flower industry for the past twenty years. The Antique Rose Florist was established in 2001 and has been serving the Midlands and surrounding areas ever since, taking great pride in our work and using only the freshest flowers.

Tell us about your business and what you offer

The Antique Rose Florist caters for all functions requiring floral arrangements, and wedding flowers are a particular favourite! We cater for all kinds of weddings, big or small and all kinds of tastes, from rustic country, romantic cottage, antique/vintage (our passion!) or classic and elegant. If you can dream it, we can do it.

We also have a lovely selection of table décor to hire, from elegant silver/gold/rose gold containers, candlesticks and votives, to rustic baskets, buckets, jugs, decorated jam jars and associated items. If we don’t have what you are looking for we will procure it for you. We have a lovely selection of table runners and serviettes available in a variety of fabrics, colours and patterns.

We don’t charge for consultations at our premises and quotations are free. We are also happy to arrange ‘mock-ups’ of table arrangements and Bride bouquets – in fact we think this is essential. And last but not least, we will travel to any destination or venue of your choice, anywhere in the world! We have the experience, vision and passion to ensure your wedding flowers and décor are remembered long after the sun rises on the first day of your new life.

How long have you been doing this for?

Approximately 20 years and counting…

What do you love most about your job?

Selecting the flowers – I am like a child in a sweetie shop when I go to the market and am often tempted to get that something extra which I had not planned for!

What differentiates your business and makes you stand out? What are you known for?

The Antique Rose Florist is well-known for arranging from the heart, outstanding quality and attention to detail – Brides often remark how long after the wedding the flowers lasted. We are also famous for our generosity – brides tell us over and over again that they received far more than they expected. We love what we do and it shows!

What can visitors to the Midlands Bridal Fair expect to see from you at the fair?

If I told you I would have to kill you 😉

Tell us what inspires you. Any websites, people or companies that you follow?

Like everyone else, I love Pinterest. I am also greatly inspired by overseas magazines, especially all things British.

Any upcoming wedding trend forecasts?

As costs keep spiralling more and more, Brides are opting to do more of their own flowers and décor and are using qualified florists to do their bouquets and other Bridal party flowers. The rustic/cottage/vintage look remains popular. The Antique Rose Florist is happy to calculate quantities with Brides and to supply the discerning DIY Bride with the best blooms and décor available to make her big day memorable.

What advice would you give Brides- and/or Grooms-to be?

Don’t try and do too much yourself and leave yourself too tired and frazzled to enjoy your big day. I see this happening quite often. Also, don’t be tempted to skimp on your flowers as they set the scene and ambience for your special day and remember that they will feature prominently in our photos and videos! To cut costs and get more for your money try to keep to local and seasonal.
