Wedding Singer: classy, live entertainment for weddings

Dave, welcome to the 2018 Midlands Bridal Fair. We are so excited to introduce you to our Brides- and Grooms-to-be!

We’d love to know more about you and how you got into the industry…

I have been a musician for almost all my life. I was initially asked to sing at the weddings of friends and family and then eight years ago, I decided to start focusing my musical repertoire to specifically suit weddings. I began marketing my services to Bridal couples and wedding venues. I have, to date, performed at over 120 weddings across South Africa.

What services and expertise does your business offer to clients?

I have over 20 years experience in live entertainment. I have an extremely large repertoire of songs that is specifically suited to weddings. I take my appearance very seriously and always ‘dress the part’ when I am hired to sing at a wedding. I can supply music for the ceremony (hymns, bridal marches, recessionals) as well as the canapes. I supply my own sound equipment and am willing to travel extensively across the whole of KwaZulu-Natal. If needs be, I can hire additional musicians if a full-band sound would be preferred.

How long have you been doing this for?

8 years (full-time for the past 2 years).

What do you love most about the work you do?

I love performing music at any time, but what I love most about performing at weddings is that you know that the audience (guests) are all there because they love and support the couple. You will never find a more relaxed and happy audience than wedding guests!

What differentiates your business and makes you stand out? What are you known for?

I am known for my high levels of professionalism. I communicate effectively, I am always dressed impeccably and I take great pride in being punctual and service-oriented. I actively ‘read the crowd’ while I am performing and because of my large repertoire I am able to tailor my performance to the specific audience in front of me. As far as I am concerned, a wedding is a deeply important event in the lives of the couple and all vendors should put their own egos aside to ensure that the best possible experience can be delivered.

What can visitors to the Midlands Bridal Fair expect to see from you at the fair?

Visitors will be able to see me perform live. This is very important as you should not choose a wedding singer from a picture or a write-up. Personal experience is key!

“Morning Dave, I just wanted to thank you for an awesome performance at our wedding on Saturday, it really set the mood and ambiance for the rest of the evening and kept our guests thoroughly entertained whilst we were away doing our photos. I literally had at least 20 people comment on how amazingly talented you are and how awesome your choice of music was, everyone was blown away! Thank you for making our big day extra special and I will most definitely recommend you to all our family and friends.” – Sarah & Greg

What advice would you give to Brides- and/or Grooms-to-be?

Don’t use Google to find your Bridal march, recessional or first dance songs. Choose music that YOU like, don’t just follow what other people have done.

When choosing hymns for the Ceremony, try to avoid modern church songs. Rather choose the kind of hymns that you sang at school. This way you will ensure that most of the congregation will know them AND will sing along.

Music is a vital part of your celebration. Even if you don’t choose live music, ensure that you hire a professional to run the dance floor for you. Do not be tempted to think that you can just ‘put on a playlist’ – this does not work and your dance floor will be a great disappointment.
