Leigh, welcome to the 2018 Midlands Bridal Fair. We are so excited to introduce you and your business to our Brides- and Grooms-to-be!
We’d love to know more about you and how you got into the industry…
My company evolved from a dream, birthed whilst working as a professional chef in the kitchens of large hotels, into one of the leading wedding cake suppliers in KwaZulu-Natal. Every cake is designed and baked by myself and I have a particular passion for confectionary. Each creation is individually and meticulously planned, in conjunction and consultation with the Bridal couple, and my special ingredient is an extra dash of love!
What services and expertise does your business offer to clients?
My clients have the peace of mind in knowing that their cake is in the hands of a professionally trained baker, registered with the South African Chef’s Association, and South African Bakers Association. I am very proud to been inducted as a professional member of the Chaine Des Rotisseurs – an exclusive international association of gastronomeurs.
I design and create the most beautiful and delicious cakes, candy tables, and many other assorted items of confectionary delight, including Croquembouche, and guest favours.
Tasting sessions are included in the consultation with the Bridal couple, during which their theme, colour scheme, preferences and visions for their special day are discussed.
All deliveries are done personally, to ensure the highest standards in my services, from inception to completion.
How long have you been doing this for?
What do you love most about the work you do?
Nothing is more special than the delight captured on the Bridal couple’s faces when they finally get to see their cake, after months of planning and finally exchanging their vows. This is a moment every Bride dreams of, and it is an honour to be a part of it. Although many of our Bridal couples are international, and we never get to meet them before the wedding, we are always delighted to be a part of the excitement of planning something so very special, by means of correspondence, and Skype calls. The satisfaction of gazing at the set up cake still gets us every time!
What differentiates your business and makes you stand out? What are you known for?
I would definitely say that the service excellence we offer, and always being happy to go above and beyond expectations sets me apart. To me, a crinkle in fondant, or a cake not 100% straight is just not acceptable, and every cake has to be perfect in every way, from the taste to the look.
My passion is my work, and my work is my passion, and I do this because I LOVE what I do.
What can visitors to the Midlands Bridal Fair expect to see from you at the fair?
A team, dedicated to making the couple’s Dream Cake a reality, whether it be a Vintage Classic, Rustic Country Naked Cake, Tantalisingly Decadent Drip Cake, Shimmering Metallic or Elegantly Marbled, to name but a few.

Tell us what inspires you. Any websites, people or companies that you follow?
I am inspired by the dreams of my clients, which dictates the main design of the cake. Of course I continually study and keep abreast of the latest trends in cake design and flavours both local and internationally, and am always happy to offer advice to clients looking for something different.
Any upcoming wedding trend forecasts?
Naked and Semi Naked Cakes are here to stay. They”re fresh, natural, beautiful and so suited to the modern bride and the beauty of the venues in the Midlands. Rose Gold is a winner… it lends a touch of shine, whilst remaining understated and elegant… Less is More!
What advice would you give to Brides- and/or Grooms-to-be?
Along with the arrival of your first baby, this is probably one of the most important events of your life, and it follows that every vendor should treat it with the same importance that you do. Ensure that your vendors are highly recommended – ask for references and don’t be shy to ask questions and look carefully at the quality of their work. It’s worth paying that little extra for a masterpiece.
Above all.. have fun.. Your vendors are there to serve you!
