Natalie, welcome to the 2018 Midlands Bridal Fair. We are so excited to introduce you and your business to our Brides- and Grooms-to-be!
We’d love to know more about you and how you got into the industry…
When I was in high school I told my mother that I wanted to drop Science because I want to be a makeup artist and then I would not need it anyway. My mother was not having any of that. Fast forward to post Matric and I danced for a performing arts company and found myself very active in the makeup department and that is where my love grew.
What services and expertise does your business offer to clients?
We offer a full range of services from nails and pedicures, brow extensions, spray tans and makeup. We are highly qualified, carrying International Diplomas and continue to develop ourselves by constantly going for updated training.
How long have you been doing this for?
What do you love most about the work you do?
Making people happy and feel beautiful is one of the most rewarding experiences. To see the Bride’s face when she sees herself in the mirror all dressed up for the first time always makes me smile. To be honest, the real reason I do this is to see the Father of the Bride shed a tear when he sees his princess ready to go. I cry every time!
What differentiates your business and makes you stand out? What are you known for?
Photographers often tell me that they love working with me because the Bride is always so relaxed when they take photos and we seem like long lost friends. The most empowering experience as a wedding makeup artist is when you realise that you are a calming force in all the wedding drama. Whether it be with family, weather or wedding nitty gritty. Never show that you are stressed or running late and just get on with it. That is what we pride ourselves on – fuss-free quality services.
As a makeup artist I am known for my bespoke service. No two faces are the same and no two Bride’s requirements are the same, so we do not follow a set makeup formula. If you are a natural loving person that is what you will get and if you love a dramatic look we change it up to suit your needs.
I can fake good brows and cover tattoos too!
What can visitors to the Midlands Bridal Fair expect to see from you at the fair?
Demos, portfolios, show specials and take-home material.
Any client testimonial/s you’d like to share?
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the excellent work on and before the wedding. I was really pleased to have simple yet beautiful and natural makeup done. I didn’t have to do major touch-ups through the day except a bit of lipstick. And myself and the girls lasted in the rain. We didn’t have smudged makeup which was really nice. I will certainly recommend you to people that I know!” – Shaaista (Dubai)
Tell us what inspires you. Any websites, people or companies that you follow?
I am constantly inspired by my colleagues in the industry and big makeup artists like Lisa Eldridge, Mary Greenwell, Charlotte Tillbury and the Chapman sisters from Pixiwoo. I have had the honour of training and working with Lisa Bailey from Pout Makeup School and she has been fundamental in shaping me as a makeup artist.
Any upcoming wedding trend forecasts?
I always advise my clients to stay away from makeup trends for weddings as they date. Our moms cringe when they look back at their blue eyes and shimmery pink or orange lips at their weddings. This was the trend then and it dated. Keep your look timeless, enhance your best features and go for classic looks that won’t be cringe-worthy in 20 years. But the natural foundation trend will always be a winner!
What advice would you give to Brides- and/or Grooms-to-be?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Embrace the day and appreciate the progression of life that you are going through. No one else knows how it was meant to be so relax and HAVE the champagne!
